About Our Philosophy

Just Show Up.

Sometimes the hardest thing in life is not winning. It is not being the best. It is not being perfect.
Sometimes the hardest thing is simply showing up.
Dr. Nasibi first heard those words on his first day at UCLA Dental School, where the dean had written on the wall: β€œJust Show Up.”

Years later, as a father, orthodontist, husband, and community member, those words became a life philosophy.

We often fear showing up because we worry about failure, judgment, rejection, or not feeling good enough.

But when children show up, they face the fear. And sometimes that first step is where confidence begins.

Play & Have Fun.

Dr. Nasibi remembers when his oldest son first started soccer at five years old. He cried before practice because he was scared and did not want to go.

Practice after practice, the family stayed patient and kept showing up.

Eventually, something changed.

He started participating. Then he started playing. Then he started laughing. Then he started having fun.

Children often resist activities before they experience the joy inside them. But once they begin moving, playing, and participating, sports can become one of the happiest and healthiest parts of childhood.

Build Friendships.

Sports are about more than competition.

They help children connect with people, communicate, work together, and become part of something bigger than themselves.

Friendship teaches children how to support others, solve problems, celebrate together, and grow socially with confidence.

Not everyone becomes your best friend and that is okay.

But through sports, children learn how to recognize good friendships, healthy environments, teamwork, and belonging. Those lessons cannot be fully learned sitting alone in front of a screen.

Keep Believing in Yourself.

Growth rarely happens overnight.

Confidence is built little by little through effort, resilience, patience, and the courage to keep going even when things feel difficult.

The goal is not perfection.

The goal is believing that you are capable of becoming better than yesterday.

Sports teach children that mistakes are part of growth. Losing, struggling, feeling nervous, or having bad games do not define who they are.

What matters most is continuing to show up, continuing to try, supporting others, and learning to believe in themselves through both success and adversity.

The Athlete of the Month Scholarship was created to encourage children throughout our community to keep showing up, keep growing, and keep believing in themselves.
